Race with bags
Motorcycle races with bags? What were riders such as Rubén Xaus, Xavi Forés, Héctor Garzo and David Checa doing on the Circuit Parc Motor track riding Harley Davidsons with panniers? What impressions did Xaus, who was runner-up in the Superbike World Championship and a prominent MotoGP rider, take away from the circuit?
Let's see.
The initiative comes from the USA and the ever-restless former rider Rubén Xaus, who, following his experience in the USA with a Harley Davidson in the Bagger Racing League category, has reached an agreement to obtain the rights to the Bagger Racing European Cup.
A joint test called ‘Round Zero’ was carried out at Kini MotorPark, which we can consider to be the starting point for this new championship.
Made in USA
The bikes commonly used in the American championship are Harley Davidsons or Indians, and in the case of the Bagger Racing European Cup, brands that offer bikes equipped with panniers are allowed. It's a very American thing, which is now coming to Europe and, in a way, is making its debut at Kini MotorPark.
‘A rider never stops being a rider,’ explains Rubén Xaus. ‘I've been through Superbike, MotoGP, and I've had experience as a team manager in teams such as Avintia MotoGP, among others. I have the opportunity to compete in the USA in 2024 with “Bagger” bikes, which are heavy bikes with a lot of inertia. But we have made an interesting transition from MotoGP bike components to the custom world. It's a very interesting story.’
The European Cup, which in a way made its debut at Kini MotorPark, will consist of four double races, eight events, in different countries with these motorcycles of up to 1700 cc, weighing 250 kg and with very basic regulations.
With a custom look and road motorcycle components, they are equipped with sports chassis and top-of-the-range suspension.
At Kini MotorPark, we saw representatives from brands such as Motobatt, high-performance batteries, Andreani MHS suspensions, Motorcycle Storehouse, and Indian Motorcycle Spain, among others.
Rubén Xaus states that "from the outset, the renovated Kini MotorPark circuit has been a benchmark for this category in Europe. It's a good track to test on.
It is a wide, safe track with strong braking and cornering. In addition to the track itself, it has a good structure for hosting events or gatherings such as the one we held for the “Round Zero” of the “European Bagger Cup”.
